Loveless, the alternative rock duo composed of Julian Comeau and Dylan Tirapelli-Jamail, has quietly canceled their upcoming North American tour after resurfaced allegations of domestic violence against Comeau.
The band, which has amassed nearly 2 million followers on TikTok and over a million monthly listeners on Spotify, was scheduled to begin their tour on September 13 in Las Vegas. The tour included stops in major cities like New York at Irving Plaza and Nashville at Brooklyn Bowl, before concluding with a hometown performance at Los Angeles’ Belasco Theater on October 25. However, last Wednesday, the opening acts—Julia Wolf and Beauty School Dropout—announced via similarly worded posts on social media that they were withdrawing from the tour due to “recent information.”
Later in the week, fans were notified that the entire tour had been canceled without any official explanation. Most of the shows now appear as canceled on Ticketmaster, and the remaining venues have listed the concerts as no longer happening on their websites.
The tour’s abrupt cancellation is widely believed to be linked to social media claims that Julian Comeau was previously charged with battery in an abusive relationship. On August 12, a user on X (formerly known as Twitter) posted a detailed thread about a domestic battery case involving Comeau in Louisiana in July 2018. The charge was later reduced to simple battery in March 2019. Court documents reviewed by Variety confirm that Comeau was sentenced to six months, including time served, and a year of probation. He also faced three bench warrants over the following year for missing monitoring appointments, which were eventually recalled. His probation was completed in March 2020, shortly before Loveless was formed.
The social media thread also included a statement from the alleged victim, who wished to remain anonymous, describing Comeau as a “dangerous and frightening individual who should not have a platform or be allowed to escape the consequences of his actions.” She recounted instances of alleged abuse, including a public incident where Comeau “slapped me in a bar, prompting bystanders to chase him out after witnessing the assault.” She also accused him of attempting to throw her off a balcony and throwing her phone over it when she tried to call the police.
In response to the allegations, Loveless’ management team at Cardiff Giant Management and their PR firm confirmed to Variety that they have severed ties with the band. Additionally, Loveless’ record label, Rise Records, a subsidiary of BMG, announced that the duo is no longer part of their roster. “Rise Records/BMG has dissolved its partnership with Loveless, and the band will no longer be part of our roster,” the label stated.
UTA, which was responsible for handling the band’s touring, did not respond to requests for comment. Loveless has also been removed from the lineup of the upcoming Reading and Leeds festivals, where they were scheduled to perform later this week.
Loveless was expected to release their first album under Rise Records, titled Loveless II, on September 13, but its release is now uncertain. Neither Comeau nor Tirapelli-Jamail has issued a statement regarding the tour’s cancellation or the band’s status. However, Tirapelli-Jamail has removed references to Loveless from his social media profiles and unfollowed both Comeau and the band, fueling speculation that the group has disbanded. Comeau has deactivated his X account, though his Instagram and TikTok profiles remain active. Neither member responded to inquiries sent via social media.
The duo formed Loveless in 2019, gaining popularity through original music and viral TikTok covers of songs like Billie Eilish’s “Happier Than Ever” and Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God).” They signed with Rise Records in early 2023 and released several singles leading up to Loveless II.
